False Bay Tourism & Business Association

Background

Our Association was constituted in 1987 and is one of the most long standing and respected organizations in the area.

We are a founder member of Muizenberg Improvement District (MID) as well as Peninsula Tourism. We were officially accredited by the South Peninsula Municipality, which enabled us, together with Simon's Town and Fish Hoek, to form South Peninsula Organisation for Tourism (SPOT) which later became Peninsula Tourism – which is now part of the Unicity's Cape Town Tourism.

Objectives (from our Constitution)

The objectives of the association are:

Membership

Our existing membership base sits within the Ward 64 Municipal boundary viz. Kalk Bay, St James, Muizenberg, Lakeside, Coniston Park, Capricorn, Marina da Gama. We are the only official Tourism and Business Body in this demarcated area.

Members

We endeavour to list all new establishments onto our database which currently stands at over 200.
We encourage all establishments to join (click here for a membership form) in order to work together on maximising the potential of our diversified and beautiful area.

What we do

We primarily market and promote Muizenberg and its environs with all its natural and physical features and harness all the passion, enthusiasm and the entrepreneurship of our members. The rebirth of Muizenberg is largely due to our being constantly in the forefront encouraging development, business ventures, entertainment, etc. We also monitor and concur with the South African Police Service regarding liquor licence applications in our area.

Projects

Our role as the voice for Tourism and Business for our area is not only official but well respected. We have successfully instituted and seen through a number of projects which include, among others:
Muizenberg - St James Walkway (Mayoral Environmental Award winner)
Palm trees and Norfolk Palms along Beach Road
Blue Flag initiative (Pilot Phase)
Established our own Clubhouse (False Bay Rendezvous) for community use (lectures, meetings, presentations, etc.)
and in addition, many marketing initiatives (brochures, pamphlets, radio, T.V. and media exposures)

Marketing

Tourism is everyone's business.
Our Association is the only body in Muizenberg which has a sustained marketing pitch. Over the years we have produced brochures, etc. viz.

Welcome to Muizenberg Beach (False Bay lifesaving Club)
Take a hike (Hiking on Muizenberg, Kalk Bay Mountain)
Take a walk (Muizenberg to St James walkway)
Welcome to Muizenberg (Muizenberg Map and Info)
Conference Venues (4 000 copies distributed in the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce publication)
Produced a promotional video (flighted on National Television)
Supplied material and copy for magazines such as Style Magazine, The Getaway Magazines, etc.
Positive press to newspapers when approached by reporters of Cape Times, Cape Argus, Sunday Times and local False Bay Echo, People's Post etc.
We use and we support anchor members or our Association such as False Bay College, Capricorn, Masque Theatre, Lindbergh Arts Foundation, Historical Society, etc.
Organized the production of Postcards, Decals, Spoons, T-Shirts, etc. for promotions and re-sale.
A glossy colour Muizenberg brochure which has proved to be so popular that it became the precursor of this website.
