Scoop for the Masque

Opening at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg on Thursday 02 and running until Saturday 04 September (4 shows only), Blue Sky Productions presents The Human Voice  by Jean Cocteau/translated by Anthony Wood plus A Woman Alone by Dario Fo and Franca Rame/translated by Gillian Hanna (South African Adaptation by James Cairns).

Nina Lucy Wylde

Nina Lucy Wylde

Fresh from the 2010 National Arts Festival, Nina Lucy Wylde recently seen in Cape Town in Boeing Boeing, teams up with acclaimed director Ingrid Wylde in a startling new mother and daughter produciton of the famous French writer Jean Cocteau's one woman play, The Human Voice and Dario Fo's dark comedy, A Woman Alone. Ingrid Wylde is well known for revisitng classical texts so that they find new voice and resonance for South Africa today.

Cocteau's riveting drama, The Human Voice runs the gamut of female emotions. A woman is speaking to her long time lover, invisible, inaudible, due to be married the next day. It is an act of love, and farewell. This deeply moving play speaks to anyone who has ever loved.

In complete contrast, A Woman Alone, written in 1991, is a colourful black comedy about a housewife held prisoner in her own home, driven to attempt suicide by her abusive relationship with a possessive husband, the drudgery of household chores, a passionae affair with a young boy, and constant harassment from her wheelchair bound brother-in-law.

The mother and daughter collaboration on a double bill of outstanding European Theatre, is a tour-de-force and should not be missed by anyone seriously interested in excellent theatre!

"it's her big, bold eyes that pierce throught the invisible walls of the stage to one's heart...a stunning success" Star TONIGHT "an emotionally rich performance...powerfully evocative and deeply moving." Cue NAF 2009

Week nights are at  20h00 and Saturday at 14h30 and 18h30. Tickets for all shows are R60 (R50 for Masque Theatre Club Members) and bookings are through Masque Theatre Bookings on 021 788 1898 (o/h)

Night on the Town at the Masque

The Wynberg Boys' High School Steel Band is known as the "party band" due to its light-hearted, foot tapping repertoire which often inspires spontaneous dancing from the audience!  This band is continually asked to perform at many high profile occasions such as the Varsity Cup game between Ikeys and Maties, the Community Chest Carnival, the Darling Voorkamerfees, Evita se Peron, the V & A Waterfront and the Grahamstown Festival.

In addition to this outstanding band, our audiences will be treated to an amazing programme which features the award-winning Wynberg Boy's Choir and the Vocal Ensemble (which performed alongside the Yale University A Cappella Vocal Group).  This ensemble received the "most outstanding" award as well as a high diploma.  As if this is not enough you will also experience the popular WBHS Concert and Jazz Bands.

The repertoire for this exciting programme includes such favourites as "Besame Mucho", "Waka Waka", "Seventy Six Trombones", "Mona Lisa", "Sha-Boom", "For the Longest Time", "The Girl from Ipanema", "All Shook Up", "Stormy Weather", "Paper Moon" and much, much more.
